Wrong Tommy Fleetwood gets paid over US$150000 for Open Championship

Fleetwood was tied for twelfth at The Open after he shot -3 for the tournament, Francesco Molinari was the overall victor on -8, and on the eve of the PGA Championship, it appears that Fleetwood has finally checked his bank account to see if his winnings from The Open were lodged.

Tommy Fleetwood of Bowling Green, Florida, unrelated to the professional golfer of the same name, mistakenly received US$154,480.

"I told him he should keep it", Thorner, a golf school owner, told USA TODAY Sports. That's when I realized that it must be for the other Tommy Fleetwood and I quickly worked out that it was his Open winnings.

"It was only for $14 or something but he called it up and looked at his statement, and that's when he shouted 'Holy smoke, I've just had US$154,000 paid into my account!'"

Tommy Fleetwood got paid more than $US150,000 ($A201,000) in prize money from last month's British Open.

"I tried to get on their senior tour, so they have my (bank) information", he said.

Stoneman Douglas Shooter Nikolas Cruz Confession Tapes Released, He Says 'Kill Me'
In the beginning of the interrogation the detective makes mention that he can barely hear him and that Cruz doesn't look up. Cruz told Curcio that he had spent about $4,000 on three shotguns and three rifles at a store and had done so legally.

'My friend Tommy is a good guy and would always pay it back.

Here's how Thorner thinks the mistake took place: his friend Tommy Fleetwood played briefly on the European PGA Tour.

The elder Fleetwood is now reportedly in the process of returning the money to the World No. 11 Fleetwood, but at least he can now probably say he's received more money as a pro than any of his colleagues.

But how did the middle-aged golfer from Florida even end up in the position to receive money from the European Tour?

After finishing his round in preparation for the PGA Championship, Fleetwood laughed it off. I wouldn't even know if I'd been paid or not because I don't really look. It's just something I don't really look at but I'll get on top of it'.
