San Bernardino Police spokesperson Captain Richard Lawhead said handguns and rifles may have been used in the incident. The remaining five victims suffered non-life-threatening injuries. Rich Lawhead told reporters.

Police in the Southern California city were unsure what motivated the shooting late on November 2, in an outdoor common area where a group of people had gathered, said San Bernardino police spokesman Captain Richard Lawhead. "All appear to be adults". She said investigators were still trying to determine how the shooting unfolded, what preceded it and whether there was an exchange of gunfire. Lawhead said that as of early Monday detectives had not identified any suspects or a motive in the shooting.

"I can tell you multiple shots were fired, I don't want to guess how many", he said.

Officers arrived at the location Sunday night to find an "unruly crowd" at a common area in the apartment complex, located in the 1200 block of East Lynwood, Lawhead said. "He was outside at the time of the shooting", Alysa Marie told CNN.
