A tale of two headers as Everton and Huddersfield share the spoils

Everton gave a Premier League debut to new signing Lucas Digne who marked the occasion with an assist but the hosts were frustrated by a dogged Huddersfield Town as they were held to a 1-1 draw at Goodison Park.

A largely dour affair briefly threatened to spark into life late in the first half with two goals in as many minutes, although that short burst of entertainment was never replicated in a scrappy second period.

Although Dominic Calvert-Lewin replied for Everton just two minutes later to earn Silva's side a point, the Toffees' defensive issues were apparent in costing Pickford and his team the three points which were expected of them.

Chris Lowe's corner was inadvertently flicked on at the near post by Calvert-Lewin and Billing was free to head home from six yards.

Marco Silva remains unbeaten from his first four Premier League games as Everton boss, although three of those have been draws.

"We didn't perform well. It wasn't a good game", He told the BBC.

They were happy to keep plenty of men behind the ball early on, allowing Zouma to race forward from the halfway line before unleashing a speculative shot from distance that only just flew wide. Huddersfield, meanwhile, have moved out of the relegation zone courtesy of just their second point of the season.

But manager David Wagner was delighted with the way his side dug in to emerge with their second point of the season.

"This makes me very pleased because it's one thing to work on it (on the training field) but then to deliver this here, in the circumstances, against Everton away, is not easy and the players have done it".

"Even if I knew someone called up in the next hour and it is something Sandro is trying to find, I would like if I would stay with him in the squad because he is a player I believe in".

"The players did a fantastic job and worked their socks off and created their moments".
