AI Cube combining Huawei’s intelligent speaker and a 4G router

Huawei announce the Huawei AI Cube Alexa smart speaker with built in 4G router, but it’s not coming to Australia

The only feature that makes it different from an Amazon Echo is its ability to use a 4G LTE Sim card to become a home Wi-Fi router. At the moment, there is still no info about pricing and availability of Huawei AI Cube and Locator.

Huawei's reasoning for opting for Alexa over Google Assistant is two-fold. Huawei says, however, that since the speaker has a headroom of 400 ml, the audio quality will increase.

If there aren't any major flaws when it comes to sound quality or wireless performance, it could be a great addition to an Alexa connected household, not to mention a foot in the door for Huawei in the smart home space. That means answering questions, controlling your smart home, playing music, and linking with thousands of third-party Alexa skills.

A 400ml sound cavity paired with an aluminium diaphragm and passive radiators combine to deliver what Huawei calls '"big sound". Huawei's promising clear highs and midrange sounds alongside rounded bass, HiListen, the company's proprietary audio technology, should also bolster the AI Cube's sound. In this case, the extent of the AI at play is Alexa - the same Alexa powering all the Amazon Echo products and a plethora of other smart speakers on the market, so despite its name, it won't be smarter than your average smart speaker. Also featured on a range of Huawei devices, HUAWEI Histen enriches the AI speaker's set of features by including virtual bass, linear phase equalizer, adaptive gain control, far-field voice recognition and more as part of its repertoire.

A Canalys report estimates a 100 million smart speaker install base by the end of 2018.

Jerick McKinnon suffers knee injury, out for 2018 season
McKinnon dealt with a calf injury during the start of preseason and may have just suffered another significant injury. The 49ers expect to sign Taumoepenu to the 10-player practice squad on Sunday if he clears waivers.

We've known for a little while that Huawei was going to bring out a smart speaker.

Alongside the AI Cube, Huawei also launched the Locator, a small device you can clip onto your pet, kid or valuable thing (like a bike) and receive information on where it is. Built as a rugged, multi-purpose device, HUAWEI Locator has an IP68 rating which makes it perfectly suited for any type of activity, indoors or outdoors.

Huawei's products and services are available in more than 170 countries, and are used by a third of the world's population. Fifteen R&D centers have been set up in the United States, Germany, Sweden, Russia, India and China.

Unfortunately, Huawei now have no plans to being the hybrid speaker/ router device to Australian shores at this time.
