Amazon 4-star's products are less expensive for Prime members.

Inc. (AMZN.O) will open a new store in New York City on Thursday featuring top-selling and highly rated products, the online retailer's latest effort at physical stores, where most consumer spending still occurs.

Amazon says it will use data from sales and customer wishlists to display trending or most-wished-for items.

The company writes in a blog post that Amazon 4-star is a "direction reflection of our customers", and in a way that's true.

The store features a curated selection of trending products, items on Amazon shoppers' wish lists, and top-rated products in various categories.

Amazon just opened a new store in SoHo called Amazon 4-star.

The store is divided into similar sections as on Amazon's website, carrying a wide range of products from devices and electronics to toys, games, books, home decor, and gifts.

The newest store takes a page from the company's Amazon Books stores, which charges customers the full suggested retail price unless they are a Prime member.

It's unknown whether the company plans to open additional 4-Star shops in other markets. You'll also see an average star rating, plus the total number of customer reviews each product has received.

"There are some areas where customers have told us they really appreciate the opportunity to have a physical place where they can really play with our products and interact with our products in the right environment", she said.

Amazon has stressed that this store, at 72 Spring Street, is a permanent venture and not some kind of pop-up experiment. The company will have 49.1 per cent of online sales in the USA this year, but just 4.9 per cent of all retail spending since most money is still spent in stores, according to EMarketer Inc.
