Anita Hill Says Allegations Require 'Fair and Neutral' Investigations

DEJA VU ALL OVER AGAIN Anita Hill is back in the news as an expert on victimhood

Well, NPR congressional reporter Kelsey Snell is here.

"Absolutely, it's the right move", Hill told ABC News' "Good Morning America".

More: Who is Christine Blasey Ford, the professor accusing Brett Kavanaugh of assault? The sexual assault charge is drawing comparisons to Hill's accusation in 1991 that Thomas frequently harassed her with sexually explicit language when he supervised her at the Department of Education and Equal Employment Opportunity Commission. In 2018, a year in which the midterm elections were already attracting a record number of women candidates, the prospect of another Supreme Court showdown over sexual misconduct seems eerily reminiscent. "It failed on both counts". "It was really a disservice to every one of us - not just on behalf of sexual harassment victims but also on behalf of those people who believe in the integrity of the court and that it should be protected by the Senate, whose role is to advise on judicial nominations".

Anita Hill, who testified about her sexual harassment claims against Justice Clarence Thomas, advised Congress on how it should handle the Ford developments in a New York Times op-ed yesterday. When the all-male Senate Judiciary Committee aired the allegations the focus was on Hill and lewd details about what she recalled. "This is a completely false allegation", he said in a statement Monday. "It is an honor and a privilege to be nominated and to serve, it is not an entitlement", Hill said.

The committee invited Kavanaugh and Ford to testify next Monday, just a little more than a week after she publicly accused him in the Washington Post. It figured heavily in therapy she underwent with her husband in 2012, and in individual therapy the following year. The Senator said at the time, that has to change. Will the #MeToo movement make a difference in Kavanaugh's confirmation? Because it's about all men.

In an interview on "Good Morning America" Wednesday morning, Hill, now a professor at Brandeis University, said she thinks the Senate Judiciary Committee should "push the pause button" on Kavanaugh's confirmation hearings and have the FBI thoroughly investigate the claim Christine Blasey Ford has made.

"If that was true", he said, "I think it would be hard for senators to not consider who the judge is today". Whereas for too long, many women felt powerless in the face of this abuse, the movement offered strength in numbers. And many simply dismiss her claims because she did not come forward sooner.

GOP Lawmakers Laud Trump's Order to Declassify FISA Docs
Adam Schiff of California, the top Democrat on the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence, said in a statement Monday. Marie Harf added that Trump seems to be selective in the documents he'd like to be declassified.

"And there were always others". He has denied the allegation.

It is all very awkward - this 11th hour assault accusation against Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh.

Ultimately, she concluded, "a fair process in which both sides are fully heard is in everyone's interest-including, most importantly, the country's, given the stakes".

Kavanaugh has denied the accusation. The White House, so far, has stood by Kavanaugh. They spun the allegations as a last-ditch Democratic attempt to hold up the confirmation. But the nomination process was quickly upended when the allegations of Anita Hill, an attorney from Oklahoma, became public.

That's what was happening in October of 1991 when Anita Hill alleged pervasive sexual harassment by her former boss, Clarence Thomas.

Hill's distinguishing between the burden of proof in court and the burden of proof in the court of public opinion, i.e. the Senate. Republicans now control the committee.
