Chelsea signed Kepa Arrizabalaga rather than Areola ahead of the new Premier League season - breaking the world transfer record for a goalkeeper by activating the Spaniard's £71.6m release clause. The French goalkeeper, who is under the spotlight after his excellent performance against Germany on Thursday night, was keen to move to England during the recent transfer window after his current side signed Gianluigi Buffon.

The Tottenham shot-stopper is captain of the national team and played all but one of France's World Cup games with Steve Mandanda getting to nod for the final group stage clash with Denmark.

With Lloris struggling with a thigh injury, Areola made his worldwide debut in France's opening UEFA Nations League game against Germany.

Areola could have been an option for Chelsea and Lollichon has revealed the 25-year-old would have made the move.

"It would have been a pleasure working with him", he said.

"We spoke a lot in the summer", Lolichon told Le Figaro.

Liverpool need Bayern Munich's mentality to win titles - Xherdan Shaqiri
Xherdan Shaqiri insists he remains calm despite struggling to make an impact since his summer move from Stoke City to Liverpool .

'I did not have to wait until Thursday [on his France debut] to discover Alphonse.

"Against Germany, he was good in his positioning and his ability to cut out balls behind his defence".

"We eulogise Lloris too much", he said. "For me, he's already the best French goalkeeper today", he added. It is the base of any goalkeeper, but not everyone can do it as well'.

Lollichon went on to lament how the young keeper has been treated by PSG.

"It's sad to see a club like Paris play a 40-year-old goalkeeper while you have a 25-year-old Areola who meets all expectations".

"Rotation among goalkeepers is ridiculous. But he must play, otherwise he'll miss his chance".
