Arsenal boss Unai Emery insists he works well with Mesut Ozil and says the German's retirement from global football will benefit the Gunners.

Ozil appears to be carrying a hangover from the 2018 World Cup which resulted in him quitting the Germany national team citing racism and discrimination.

Arsenal were without a number of key players for the 3-2 victory over Cardiff City two weeks ago and now, the club has provided an update on the fitness situation.

Ozil is expected to be back in action for Arsenal this weekend when they take on Newcastle United in the Premier League.

And speaking ahead of this weekend's Premier League clash with Newcastle, Emery opened up on where his relationship with Ozil now stands.

Granit Xhaka continues to split opinion among the fans as while he's so important to our build-up play, he is a liability when we're not in possession.

"He could feel different but every day with us I look at him and he looks well and happy, working with our demands", added Emery.

"That's the same for Mesut".

'I think we need to find a new contract with him to stay with the Arsenal team'.

"I just have a feeling it might work this time". He can improve, he can do more.

'Saturday is another step we can do, it will be hard but I want to continue (to show) our personality on the pitch and impose this personality on the opposition and to find the win'. "In this process, we will work, we will help him, give him the possibility on the pitch to be together, to find his qualities for us". "Here he has played both. [For] Mesut it is these two positions".
