"In collaboration with state emergency agencies and the Georgia Hospital Association, we are monitoring bed counts daily so that we can quickly and accurately assist with any necessary evacuations", said Sydney Walker, spokesperson for Piedmont Athens Regional Medical Center.

Highways clogged with people fleeing North and SC early Wednesday as monstrous Category 4 Hurricane Florence rumbled toward the eastern USA as the biggest storm there in decades.

Florence had maximum sustained winds of 215km/h and is on a trajectory that shows its centre most likely to strike the southern coast of North Carolina by late Thursday or early Friday local time, the National Hurricane Center said on Wednesday.

Mr Trump wrote on Twitter: "Get out of its way, don't play games with it". The center said the waves were measured by satellite.

"If you are refusing to leave during this mandatory evacuation, you need to do things like notify your legal next of kin because the loss of life is very, very possible", Mayor Mitch Colvin said at a news conference. In a recent ranking, Millerick's institute found South Carolina's rules to be among the most up to date among hurricane-prone states.

That's because in addition to the extensive flooding, the hurricane is expected to knock out power along the coast, according to an analysis done by a team headed by Seth Guikema, an associate professor of civil and environmental engineering at the University of MI.

Hurricane Florence is now a powerful Category 4 hurricane and is expected to make a unsafe impact once it makes landfall along the coast of the southeast USA later this week.

The eastbound lanes of several major highways have been shut down to allow traffic to flow inland, but the exodus was slow along roads jammed with outward-bound vehicles.

A state of emergency has been declared in Maryland, North Carolina, South Carolina, Virginia and Washington amid concern over potential torrential rain and flooding.

"If I need to evacuate I can go to my son's house", Sparks said as he carted a load of water bottles to his auto.

Delhi cop’s son thrashes woman; arrested after Rajnath intervenes
On Friday, Singh took to Twitter to inform that he had taken the cognisance of the case and ordered the Delhi Police to act. The man was arrested after Rajnath Singh intervened, calling out Delhi Police Commissioner to initiate investigations.

"He was thinking of coming here until this morning, and now he asked me if I wanted to come up there", he said.

Kevin Miller, a 50-year-old electrician, said he planned to ride out the storm at his home near Charleston. Parts of North Carolina could get 1 metre. You never know, but we know.

He said much will depend on when, where and how fast it hits ground. "I was in the same house and it stood fine".

North Carolina Governor Roy Cooper warned residents that time was running out to seek safety from what he called a "once in a lifetime" storm. "They're meant to get you out safely".

By Saturday, total rainfall could accumulate to 20 inches (51 centimetres) - or even 30 inches in places - in parts of the Carolinas and Virginia, the NHC said.

Gov. Henry McMaster issued a mandatory evacuation order for all coastal SC counties on Monday.

In Virginia, 245,000 coastal residents were ordered to evacuate including from the Eastern Shore, another popular beachfront destination.

And while the Carolinas prep for Florence tomorrow, there are others in the Atlantic - and a tropical storm near Hawaii - that also pose danger as 2018's Atlantic hurricane season reaches its peak.
