Ugandan musician turned politician Robert Kyagulanyi aka Bobi Wine has finally touched down at the U.S. where he will receive medical attention.

Popular Kyadondo East member of parliament Robert Kyagulanyi alias Bobi Wine has been cleared by police to travel to the United States for further medical treatment.

The Kyadondo East Member of Parliament was spotted seated in a wheelchair as his loving wife accompanied him.

An attorney for Wine, Robert Amsterdam, told CNN that Wine arrived in Boston, and will later travel to Washington.

He was taken to the governent's Kiruddu General Hospital in Kampala, where, the MP's global lawyer Robert Amsterdam said he had locked himself in a room with his wife and refused access to army doctors.

Bobi Wine posted on Twitter that he had arrived safely in the USA after suffering brutal torture by Special Forces soldiers.

"We have been monitoring the situation quietly with the expectation that the various interventions from across the world would bring pressure to bear on the regime to do the right thing".

The court decision dropped late in the night but before the spots of presidential hopefuls were set to broadcast. He denied wrongdoing and said his conviction was part of a plot to prevent him returning to power.

He was first arrested by the military on August 15 after rioting broke out between rival parties ahead of a local parliamentary election.

He was charged with treason last week, following the alleged stoning of President Yoweri Museveni's convoy.

On Monday, a judge said he did not constitute a flight risk and granted him bail along with 32 other opposition politicians who had also been charged.

Ugandan authorities initially dismissed the allegations that Kyagulanyi was beaten up in detention as "rubbish" and "fake news".

"Before this medical examination was done, the Uganda Police Force learnt of his departure yesterday, August 30", said Kayima in the statement.

Kyagulanyi's attempt to leave Uganda the previous day was blocked by officials.

Wine's youth movement has rattled the Museveni regime.
