Brexit feud between May and Johnson

Theresa May said she was confident she could broker a good Brexit deal for Britain

Theresa May said she was confident she could broker a good Brexit deal for Britain

Archrival Boris Johnson inflamed speculation that he aims to oust May by branding her plan for Brexit "a disaster".

The plan, named for the prime minister's country residence where it was agreed by the cabinet in July, calls for free trade between Britain and the European Union in manufactured and agricultural goods, with Britain accepting regulations over traded goods that align with European Union rules.

Writing in the Daily Telegraph, Mr Johnson claimed Britain is waving the "white flag" in negotiations with the European Union and that talks with Brussels are a "fix".

Lawmaker Damian Green, an ally of May, conceded the prime minister was in a tight spot. They wanted to use that problem to stop a proper Brexit.

A spokesman for the Prime Minister said: "There's no new ideas in this article to respond to".

Meanwhile, EU's chief Brexit negotiator Michel Barnier made matters more hard by criticising PM May's Chequers plan as marking an "end" to the European project.

"The fix is in", said the former foreign secretary.

Downing Street's statement comes after Johnson used his Telegraph to accuse May of surrendering on Brexit. "What we need are political decisions".

Meanwhile, allies of Conservative election mastermind Lynton Crosby - who helped May's leadership rival Johnson win two London mayoral campaigns - are reportedly helping Brexiteers plot to destroy the plan, according to The Sunday Times.

But the PM's spokesman retorted: "The Chequers proposals are the only credible and negotiable plan which has been put forward and which will deliver on the will of the British people".

Bills Trade McCarron to Raiders
According to ESPN's Adam Schefter, the Bills received a fifth round pick from the Raiders in the deal. Was it enough to keep him on the roster? The Raiders have a new backup.

Speaking from Australia, Nigel said: "He's clearly going for the Tory leadership".

Parliament returns from its summer break on Tuesday.

And the viability of the Chequers model was also coming under question in Brussels, with Mr Barnier telling a German newspaper that he is "strongly opposed" to elements of the plan.

When asked how they would vote if a referendum on Scotland's future was held after the United Kingdom leaves the EU, 47% said they would support independence, with 43% saying they would opt to stay part of the Union.

Mr Johnson, who had resigned as government minister in July in protest at the deal agreed by the Cabinet at Chequers - the British Prime Minister's country residence - likened the Brexit negotiations to a wrestling match, in which an European Union "victory" was inevitable.

"It's very clear that the Chequers proposals are being taken seriously".

His predecessor as Home Secretary, Amber Rudd dismissed Mr Johnson's attack as "ridiculous". "So we will be ready for a no deal if we need to be".

"What matters in all of this is not the personality politics, it's the outcome at the end".

Fox, also speaking to the BBC, took a swipe at the Treasury over gloomy predictions on the consequences of a no-deal scenario. "The Tories have had two years since the referendum and made no progress at all".
