Burt Reynolds: Hollywood star dies, 82

TMZ is reporting famous Hollywood actor Burt Reynolds has died at 82.

Reynolds died at the Jupiter Medical Center in Florida, according to the Hollywood Reporter.

After appearing in several plays, Reynolds began booking TV roles, and soon broke through with his role in the 1972 thriller "Deliverance".

Throughout the 1970s, Reynolds played the leading role in a string of box office hits, including The Longest Yard (1974) Smokey and the Bandit (1977) and Hooper (1978). Arguably FSU's most well-known alumnus, Reynolds went on to become a champion of alma mater, helping to establish the nationally recognized film school and frequently appearing on former head football coach Bobby Bowden's weekly television show.

Born in south Georgia, Reynolds and his family moved to MI and eventually wound up in southeastern Florida, according to the website of the Florida Artists Hall of Fame, where he was inducted in 1993. He was also cast in Quentin Tarantino's Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, which is now filming.

An action star who did many of his own stunts, Reynolds was also a charismatic rogue and relentless flirt on-screen, helping to make one of the biggest sex symbols of his time. "I don't take myself seriously, and I think the ones that do, there's some sickness with people like that".

Reynolds was twice married, first to Judy Carne for just two years from 1963 to 1965, and then to Loni Anderson, from 1988 to 1993.

Burt had been suffering from health issues in recent years.
