Barquin Arozamena, 22, was found in water near a tee box at Coldwater Golf Course on Monday with stab wounds. She was also the reigning champion of the prestigious "Big 12" university women's golf championship.

"This is a tragic and senseless loss of a talented young woman and an acclaimed student athlete", Iowa State University President Wendy Wintersteen said in a statement Monday.

"A bad, tragic, senseless loss", Wintersteen said.

A police dog tracked Barquin's scent to a homeless encampment along a creek near the golf course, where Richards had been living in a tent, the complaint said.

Officers responded and located Barquin's body "some distance away" and determined she had been assaulted, the department said. "I hope Celia Barquin Arozamena's family finds peace and gets justice for this horrendous crime".

Police provided an update on the case this morning.

While they investigated the scene Monday, police spoke with a man who knew Richards and asked them, "What did he do to her?"

Public hearing will be held on sexual assault allegations against Kavanaugh
Republicans, he says, feel that this is in their grasp and they do not want to do anything to cause things to go off the rails. The Senate has scheduled a public hearing on a sex assault claim against Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh for next week.

"It's rare, obviously still very troubling that something like this would happen in broad daylight in a city that is as safe as Ames is", Huff said. "Right now, all leads are important". Police said they have had encounters with him in the past. He has no known address. He was ordered jailed Tuesday on a $5 million, cash-only bond.

Richards has a lengthy criminal history.

There has also been a campaign on social media encouraging fans in attendance of the game to wear yellow, Barquin Arozamena's favorite color. The report adds that Richards' chemical test gave him a blood alcohol level of 0.086 percent. Details weren't provided, though WOI-TV reports Richards has a history of arrests for intimidation with a risky weapon, trespassing, and public intoxication dating back to 2015.

Iowa State University paid tribute to Barquín, a student and European champion.

At some point that day, Richards had gone to another location to bathe, he told officers.

Richards was later arrested. He was arrested for trespassing and cause more than $200 worth of damage.

Thornton did not see anyone suspicious on the golf course, and told the news station that he was in disbelief that someone could commit such a violent act out in the open, and in view of neighboring buildings.
