Chelsea midfielder Ruben Loftus-Cheek said he had accepted coach Maurizio Sarri's challenge to improve tactically in training before re-assessing his future in January.

Speaking to The Guardian, Loftus-Cheek was quizzed about his future, with the England worldwide struggling to break into the Chelsea first-team squad under Maurizio Sarri.

While he made his first start in the new campaign for England in their 1-0 defeat of Switzerland, his appearances in a Blues shirt are limited to just two substitute outings into the new season.

Loftus-Cheek's next opportunity to impress could come on Saturday as the Premier League resumes following the global break. That's when I took the chance to go to Palace, and even when that happened, I thought I could've done it earlier. "It is just down to me working hard in training, I don't know whether I am going to play or not play but for me it stays the same, I still train well and do everything the right way in case I do play". I was fortunate enough to be fit for that period where it's like a game every three days over Christmas, and I got my body used to being able to play, have a rest, then play on a Tuesday.

Japan proposes end to commercial whaling ban, faces pushback:The Asahi Shimbun
The commission declared a "pause" to commercial whaling beginning in the 1985-1986 season, but it remains in place today. Tokyo justified the practice as a part of scientific research, which was allowed by the moratorium.

Loftus-Cheek is at the moment way down in the pecking order at the club, despite enjoying an impressive spell on loan at Crystal Palace past year which earned him a place in England's 2018 FIFA World Cup squad in the summer.

And now the midfielder has refused to rule out the possibility of a temporary return to Selhurst Park in the winter window. Yet Mateo Kovacic was signed on loan from Real Madrid, with no option to buy, to push Loftus-Cheek further down the pecking order.

"I'd like to have more appearances by now, but it's just the way my journey has gone, and I just have to be patient with it", Loftus-Cheek told Sky Sports. "I was too young but obviously you see clips of what he did for Chelsea so to have him as an assistant is great for us players".

"I started really enjoying my football, playing in the Premier League every week, and I felt the benefits". "That is in the future and we will deal with that when it comes".
