Ted Cruz’s Texas Senate campaign is sending out mailers to voters disguised as court summonses

Republican Sen. Ted Cruz, who is locked in a tight fight for his seat with Democratic Rep. Beto O'Rourke, lampooned his opponent in a warning to Texas voters on Twitter Sunday: "if Beto wins, BBQ will be illegal!"

After announcing that he would headline a benefit concert for Beto O'Rourke's campaign against incumbent Senator Ted Cruz, Willie Nelson has been "getting a lot of flak".

Another ad accused O'Rourke of adopting a Hispanic nickname to appeal to Texas voters. The ad features veteran Marine Sgt. Tim Lee who lost his legs in Vietnam who says players should stand. Quinnipiac previously polled registered voters three times, finding Cruz ahead by 6 points in August, 11 in May and 3 in April. Only 1 percent of those polled were undecided.

O'Rourke was in striking distance of Cruz in earlier polls, but a Quinnipiac poll released on Monday showed Cruz with a nine-point lead over the Democratic challenger. Most O'Rourke voters ranked healthcare as their most important issue, followed by the Supreme Court, while Cruz supporters chose the economy or immigration.

Other recent independent polling on the Texas Senate race has shown a closer contest.

The rally for O'Rourke is scheduled for September 29 at 8 p.m. Auditorium Shores in Austin. O'Rourke, 46, was given his nickname at the age of two.
