Cuomo NIxon Meet In Only Televised Primary Debate

Governor Andrew Cuomo and actress Cynthia Nixon have been in fierce debates over issues like healthcare and education. I'll tell you who I'm voting for honestly, ' started Schumer before announcing she'd be voting for Cuomo despite that fact that he isn't her 'fav dude'. "If you like it, tell your friends, no matter who they vote for", Bee said, with one exception: "Don't tell Ted Cruz, I don't want to have to give him money".

Nixon's alleged support of the BDS movement was one of three bullet points used in a pro-Cuomo mailer that was sent out less than a week before Thursday's Democratic primary.

But Nixon supporters have reason to hope: They point to incumbents losing upset races, first in a Queens congressional district in June, and a Massachusetts House primary last month.

With two days to go until New York Democrats head to the polls, Nixon, who has refused corporate donations, knows she's the underdog against a well-known, well-funded, powerful incumbent.

Nixon thanked the Zaber's employee behind the counter before leaving and asking him to, "please vote on Thursday".

"The polls across the board are just not capturing the progressive moment we're in", she said, adding that hundreds of thousands of new Democrats have registered to vote across New York State following Donald Trump's election.

The victor of the primary will face Republican Dutchess County Executive Marc Molinaro, Green Party candidate Howie Hawkins and former Syracuse Mayor Stephanie Miner, an independent, in the November general election.

A Siena College Poll released on September 10 gives Cuomo supporters plenty of reasons to stay home.

"He has unleashed a cancer and it grows out of control", Cuomo said at the rally.

The race has turned increasingly bitter and expensive, as Cuomo has spent $18 million to Nixon's $1.6 million, according to state figures.

Yet despite enthusiasm for Nixon in some quarters and on social media, Cuomo has held substantial leads against Nixon in the polls.

The state Democratic Party funded the mailer after Cuomo contributed $2.5 million.

Political observers say that turnout is an overriding factor, but if damaging stories continue to come out about Cuomo, whether concerning the bridge, the mailer or other issues, "it's likely to affect at the margins the spread", said Levenson.

Thursday's primary also features a four-way Democratic contest for attorney general, which is being closely watched because of the office's ability to investigate Trump and his business and charity dealings. In the final debates, Maloney and Eve - who has struggled to break out of single digits - have attacked Teachout for only recently passing the NY bar and for not rejecting "corporate" money in her 2016 run.

Down ballot, former members of the Independent Democratic Conference all face challenges as well from candidates eager to end the status quo in state government.
