Olesen secures spot on Team Europe for Ryder Cup

While Wallace's Ryder Cup's fate is still in doubt, local golfer Thorbjorn Olesen secured the last spot of the automatic qualifiers narrowly holding off a strong late challenge from Matthew Fitzpatrick whose last round of 66 to finish 7th left him just short.

Pieters' 2016 team-mates Matt Fitzpatrick and Rafa Cabrera Bello are also under consideration for places alongside Irish Open champion Russell Knox and Matt Wallace, who secured his third win of the season last week at the Made In Denmark.

Sweden's Johan Edfors was the only player to win three times in a Ryder Cup year and not make the team, in 2006.

Wallace was clearly delighted with his effort and acknowledges that while not qualifying automatically for the European Ryder Cup team he has done as much as he can to keep his name in the mind of captain Thomas Bjorn. "A lot of guys are playing well". "Listen, it's a great position to be in, but we are in a situation where we're going to make somebody really happy and we're going to let somebody down". There is plenty of class in that line-up but the worry for Bjorn will be the lack of Ryder Cup experience as they prepare to take on Team USA in France from 28-30 September.

"Some players sometimes forget that it's about what happens at the end of September and not what happens at the end of August". "If he doesn't pick me then that's absolutely fine but if he does, he knows he's going to get exactly that in his team".

No Ryder Cup conversation can be complete without the inclusion of Ian Poulter, who boasts a remarkable record of only four defeats from 18 matches. "And then we'll see".

Tyrrell Hatton: "I'm glad that it's finally here". Wallace then birdied the 18th twice more in the playoff to land his fourth European Tour win at Silkeborg Ry Golf Club. So to be able to finally get there and get going will be a bit of a relief in some ways. "It was obviously nice to see Thorbjorn making the team, it's been a tough few weeks for him but I think he deserves his place".

Elon Musk Renews Attacks on British Diver, Calls Him a ‘Child Rapist’
At time of publication, neither Musk nor the Tesla board had yet publicly addressed BuzzFeed's claims. Musk later apologized after Unsworth said he was considering legal action .

Tommy Fleetwood: "I'm so happy, honoured and extremely proud to have qualified for the team".

Imagine the prospect of Stenson and Alex Noren or Justin Rose lining up on the first at Le Golf National together?

"At the beginning of the year, one of my goals was to make the team", he said. I have spoken to a lot of the guys about it and everyone tells me how incredible of an experience it will be.

"When you start looking at those eight, it's a really strong team", he said.

Of the eight qualifiers, five are Ryder Cup rookies. With his career in jeopardy, Woods has been more engaged over the past few years and proven to be an invaluable resource in the team room - not only because of his two decades of big-game experience, but because he's mostly talking to a team of 20-somethings that grew up idolizing him. "He's keeping everyone in the loop".

But prior to the announcement, he's already pleased with the team.

"I am pretty set on two or three names, that's for sure", said Bjorn, who will sit down with his vice captains after the non-counting Dell Technologies Championship finishes in Boston today. A lot of things on my mind.
