2019 Ferrari Monza SP2

The single-seat Monza SP1 and two-seat Monza SP2 are the first models in the company's new super-exclusive range of Icona limited-edition models "aimed at dedicated clients and collectors". We stroll past the new upholstery workshop and Tailor Made atelier to an ultra-modern auditorium crowned by a ring of high-def screens and amphitheater seating.

Louis Camilleri, who took over as Ferrari chief executive from Sergio Marchionne, who died in July, said all of the Monzas had already been pre-sold to customers who attended the preview party on Monday night.

Ferrari surprised guests at the company's Capital Markets Day at the factory in Maranello with two new custom one-offs: the Ferrari Monza SP1 and Ferrari Monza SP2.

The spectacular Monza SP1 and SP2 you see here is still limited (to less than 500 units, according to Autocar) and will still in all likelihood be extremely expensive (the price tag is expected to be knocking on US$3 million, or a staggering RM12.4 million a pop), but the fact remains that these cars are now being offered to a broader audience than there was before.

The Monza is intended as a successor to the classic Barchetta, a racing vehicle made by the firm in the 1940s and 1950s. That directs the flow of air to avoid blasting the driver in the face, along with preserving aerodynamic flow. Ferrari says that's good for a 0-62 run in 2.9 seconds - oh yeah, there's no windshield either.

If you own a Ferrari, you not only get to own and drive some of the best supercars in the world but, if your garage is flush with Maranello's greatest hits, the Italian automaker will treat you once in a while.

Ferrari had long capped production to preserve the brand's exclusivity. And its shockingly long hood hides an engine block placed far ahead by the front axle, curiously distant from the firewall. It's created to divert some of the airflow over the driver's head, though these Monza models will offer a raw driving experiences similar to driving an F1 auto, the company says. Of course, if you're buying this strano unicorn, chances are you have an entire collection of other horses in your stable, so convenience is hardly a primary concern.

More details and pictures will be revealed Tuesday evening.

To go along with the cars, Ferrari has collaborated with Loro Piana and Berluti on a range of accessories: everything from racing overalls through to helmets and gloves.
