She said she never told anyone about the attack before - not even her own mom who had called her after seeing the clip on TV, according to the news site.

Republicans, including Flake, have said they're prepared to support Kavanaugh in large part because they have insufficient evidence in support of Ford's allegation.

After announcing Friday morning his decision to vote to move the nomination to the floor, Flake was confronted by protesters while on his way to the hearing.

Jeff Flake of Arizona is warning other senators that they have "lit a match" with the "unseemly" confirmation process.

Flake had told the Senate Judiciary Committee ahead of its vote that he would "only be comfortable [voting yes on the floor if] the FBI has done more investigation than they have already", saying his Democratic counterparts are "justifiably uncomfortable moving ahead" and that "this country's being ripped apart" by the controversy. On his way to the hearing, he was confronted by angry protesters accusing him of betraying women.

"Look at me and tell me that it doesn't matter what happened to me", the woman said.

"What you are doing is allowing someone who actually violated a woman to sit on the Supreme Court?" she shouted at Flake.

Flake says the only certainty about the vote is that the outcome "will forever be steeped in doubt". Democrats have been calling for such an investigation, though Republicans and the White House have insisted it's unnecessary.

Archila said in an interview with AP that she was sexually assaulted when she was 5 years old by a teenager when she and her family lived in Colombia. Dr. Ford sounded credible, but there are a lot of missing details in her allegation and the details she has provided are not backed up by any of the people she claims were present.

"The people who have been coming to Washington, D.C., are not people who have been activists for 20 years. Look at me and tell me that it doesn't matter what happened to me".

"This won't be an easy conversation", she said. Gallagher could not be reached for comment Friday. One of them saying to him, and I'm quoting through tears, 'Don't look away from me. Think about them." While Gallagher said, "I was sexually assaulted and nobody believed me. "While I would gladly welcome the opportunity to work with President Trump on a new nominee for this critically important position, if Judge Kavanaugh's nomination comes before the full Senate for a vote under these circumstances, I will oppose it".

Shortly after Flake's announcement, the committee voted 11-10 to advance Kavanaugh out of the committee.

Archila said she believes the confrontation affected him.

"We really had decided that [Flake] had to listen to us".

Democrats have been particularly focused on getting more information from Mark Judge, a high school friend of Kavanaugh who Ford said was also in the room during her alleged assault.
