After dropping the headphone jack from the Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL, Google received some backlash for initially trying to grab an extra $20 for a much needed USB-C to 3.5mm dongle.

The current USB-C to 3.5mm headphone adapter measures in at 3.67 inches in length, while the previous version had a length of 3.8 inches. It's additionally ever-so-a dinky bit smaller than the 2017 adapter, measuring in at 3.67 in. long, Zero.forty six in. extensive, and Zero.3 in. colossal, and weighing accurate Zero.17g.

The original dongle was $9, but Google's charging slightly more for this one at $12.

AI chief Fei-Fei Li to scale back role at Google Cloud
Later, Google drafted a set of values for its AI effort, promising not to work on weapons, or using AI to weaponise anything. Greene added that the transition has been planned for some time, as Li had always meant to return to her job at Stanford.

Of course, the search giant is trying to justify the premium by claiming the new adapter provides "38% more playback time and has a 53% improvement on plug-in latency than previously available Pixel 2 headphone adapter". While the company remains very secretive about the hardware that will be launched at the event, the key devices expected to be unveiled are the Google Pixel 3 and Google Pixel 3 XL smartphones. The new one costs $12. As well as making a previously back-breaking 5.3g cable a feather-light 4.9g, Google has managed to improve its performance too. The store listing, however, says that it works best with "Pixel and other devices running Android P or higher".

Bottom line: Dongles are a necessary evil until batteries and wireless options get a lot better.
