James Bond producers reveal unexpected director pick

As yet unnamed, Bond 25 is set to be Daniel Craig's final film playing 007 before he hangs up his Walther PPK for good.

Cary Joji Fukunaga, 41, will direct the 25th instalment of the world's most lucrative film franchise despite a career that has barely troubled the box office.

Michael G Wilson and Barbara Broccoli were reported to have met with numerous directors after Boyle dropped out in August over "creative differences", said to revolve around Boyle's script with Trainspotting writer John Hodge.

Female director SJ Clarkson, who has been signed up for the next Star Trek sequel, had joined Bart Layton and Yann Demange on a list of contenders for the job after Boyle quit.

Beasts of No Nation director Cary Fukunaga has been named as the director of the next James Bond film.

The march was part of the campaign of the "Together for European Macedonia" coalition of the governing parties and NGOs that support the referendum.

The acclaimed film, on which Fukunaga was also cinematographer, won a handful of industry awards, including the Independent Spirit Awards for best male lead for Abraham Attah and the best supporting male for Elba, and a George Foster Peabody Award for excellence.

The release date is a shift from tradition, with Bond movies usually released in November or December, however, due to Boyle's unexpected exit, clearly something had to give in terms of scheduling, with a November 2019 release looking increasingly unlikely. His latest effort, the gloriously indefinable Maniac, has just launched on Netflix, and he's already got a dozen other projects swirling.

The Bond series producers revealed the news in a tweet today.

"His versatility and innovation make him an excellent choice for our next James Bond adventure".
