Japanese billionaire Yusaku Maezawa revealed as SpaceX’s mystery Moon tourist

He paid an unspecified amount of money for the privilege.

"This is my lifelong dream".

Maezawa founded Japan's largest online shopping mall, Zozotown, according to Forbes.

SpaceX CEO and founder Elon Musk tweeted renders of the BFR that will bring a private passenger on a trip around the Moon. He drew attention past year with the purchase of a Jean-Michel Basquiat painting for $110.5 million.

His love of art led him to decide to invite artists to come along for the trip, he said.

He said he hasn't yet decided which artists he plans to invite, but he joked, "if you should hear from me, please say yes and accept my invitation'".

The 42-year-old entrepreneur says he wants his guests to be inspired to create once they return to Earth. "These masterpieces will inspire the dreamer within all of us".

It was the first mission to send humans beyond low-Earth orbit, the first to put astronauts atop NASA's gargantuan Saturn 5 rocket and it is still considered one of the agency's most daring flights. A total of 24 NASA astronauts - all white men - voyaged to the Moon during the Apollo era of the 1960s and '70s. "Twelve walked on the lunar surface" he added.

"He stepped forward", Musk added.

Today, the company will have a surprise event, probably hosted by Elon Musk, who will announce who will be the individual that will be aboard the BFR and travel around the Moon.

James Bond producers reveal unexpected director pick
As yet unnamed, Bond 25 is set to be Daniel Craig's final film playing 007 before he hangs up his Walther PPK for good. Beasts of No Nation director Cary Fukunaga has been named as the director of the next James Bond film.

Maezawa has chartered a flight aboard the company's Big Falcon Rocket, which is still being developed, for a slingshot trip around the Moon as soon as 2023.

"This is risky, to be clear". You have to set some kind of date that's the "things go right" date. "There is a chance something could go wrong".

Maezawa revealed that he'd purchased all seats on the first crewed flight of SpaceX's Big Falcon Rocket - a new launch system that's being created to colonize Mars.

The billionaire chief executive of electric auto maker Tesla Inc, Musk said the Big Falcon Rocket, or BFR, the super heavy-lift launch vehicle that he promises will shuttle passengers to the moon and eventually fly humans and cargo to Mars, could be conducting its first orbital flights in two to three years.

This isn't the first time Musk has vowed to send tourists around the Moon. Musk did not name the clients a year ago or say how much they would pay.

Musk showed off designs of the 118-metre long BFR, which will consist of the first stage with engines and fuel systems, and a second stage with the spacecraft where the passengers will ride. "That would be on a Dragon 2 spacecraft and a Falcon Heavy rocket, which is due to do its maiden launch this summer". Russian Federation halted its space-tourism program in 2010, after the US retired its space shuttle program, leaving fewer seats available to get working astronauts into orbit.

SpaceX founder Elon Musk says the BFR is still in development. While the rocket is the BFR, the spaceship itself is called the BFS or Big Falcon Spaceship. This suggested that the company is still working on the design. A 90-minute flight costs US$250,000. Blue Origin's price has not been revealed.

Musk's successes have recently been overshadowed by his behaviour and the struggles of his Tesla electric vehicle company to deliver. It is scheduled for an unmanned demonstration launch in November.

The moon travelers will be carried around the moon in a SpaceX Crew Dragon spacecraft, which is also still in development.
