Kawhi Leonard breaks silence on blockbuster trade that brought him to Toronto

Kawhi Leonard of Toronto Raptors focused on this season, not future

As a Raptors fan, it's disappointing, I don't mind the team going with black-gold as an alternate colour scheme but once again, the team does not have a uniform with the name of their hometown on it.

Once we are able to look past all the drama, realizing the potential of a Kyle Lowry-Kawhi Leonard one-two punch actually becomes quite an exciting prospect.

"If you look into the future, you'll trip over the present".

Leonard, a two-time Defensive Player of the Year, was traded to the Raptors on July 18 by the San Antonio Spurs.

Just over two months since the Raptors acquired the former NBA Finals MVP from the San Antonio Spurs, along with Danny Green, for DeMar DeRozan, Jakob Poeltl and a first-round draft pick, Leonard put on team gear, posed for pictures and met with the media at the Scotiabank Arena on Monday morning. He only appeared in nine games last season due to injury, but averaged a career-high 25.5 points per game in the previous season, in addition to 5.8 rebounds, 3.5 assists and 1.8 steals per game.

The Raptors will open up the season at home against the Cleveland Cavaliers on October 17. Nurse said all that mattered to him was that Leonard was "serious about winning".

Leonard broke out a rare smile as he was introduced.

"Obviously I love the game of basketball". I mean, there's just more questions you'll have to ask me.

Asked his reaction to coming to Toronto, Leonard said, "Excited". "You have to be around him, he's different in the locker room than he is with you guys but his main focus is basketball; he loves it".
