Ariana Grande performs during the funeral service for Aretha Franklin at Greater Grace Temple, Friday, Aug. 31, 2018, in Detroit.

Dignitaries attending Friday's service include Clive Davis, the Rev. Jesse Jackson, Stevie Wonder and Jennifer Holliday.

Grande, who was spotted inside the chapel with her fiance Pete Davidson, was also snapped taking selfies with Hillary Clinton and embracing the former presidential candidate.

Detroit Mayor Mike Duggan took to the podium to announce a proposal to rename the city's waterfront Chene Park after Franklin.

Franklin was dressed in a sparkling full-length gold dress with sequined heels for her final outfit, and she was dressed head-to-heel in red for her first public viewing on Tuesday, a nod to her membership in the sorority Delta Sigma Theta. "To say I was humbled to be in her presence would be an understatement".

And while celebrities filled the pews and provided electrifying performances, the homegoing for Franklin was mostly a joyful church service, with gospel tributes, preaching and many opportunities to catch the Holy Spirit.

"There are some girls who haven't been born yet ... who will be inspired by Aretha", he said.

Several speakers also rebuked President Trump, who in paying tribute to Franklin, said that she "worked for me", apparently an oblique reference to the time she performed at one of his casinos.

"I just loved her", Clinton continued. "Not without fear, but overcoming her fears", Clinton said of the "Respect" singer. Franklin's name and the title "Queen of Soul" are embroidered into the champagne-colored velvet lining the interior.

"She called me, the little black girl from the east side of Detroit, to say she was proud of me", Lawrence said. Get your preposition right.

While delivering a speech at Aretha Franklin's grand send-off, Rev. Al Sharpton aimed some spicy words at President Donald Trump.

And Victorie Franklin said that "the best feeling in the world" was hearing her grandmother sing.

Clinton said he walked into the Cathedral of St. John the Divine on W. 110th Street and was surprised that Franklin summoned him to meet with her privately and talk a bit before the festivities.

"Aretha Franklin was given special gifts but she used [them] in a special way".
