No Deal Brexit? May Promises To Protect EU Nationals In UK

If Theresa May felt ambushed, as British media saw it, at the Salzburg EU summit, she has only herself to blame for irritating continental leaders with her stand on Brexit, EU officials and diplomats said on Friday.

The move comes after European Council President Donald Tusk ripped up Mrs May's blueprint for Brexit on Thursday, saying it risked the integrity of the EU single market and the Northern Ireland border.

Mrs May was left looking isolated after leaders told her to rework her plans, and set her a deadline of next month to come back with new ideas. The party begins its annual conference in Birmingham next Sunday and Ms.

"Everybody shared the view that while there are positive elements in the Chequers proposal, the suggested framework for economic cooperation will not work", Mr Tusk said.

Labour MP David Lammy gave his blistering take on Theresa May's Brexit statement, describing her words as "nonsense".

"If all conventional roads lead to a hard no-deal Brexit, the notion of parliament exerting control and forcing another referendum on us would begin to look not wholly fanciful", Peston wrote in The Spectator.

The statement will likely go down well with those domestically who want to see the prime minister take a tougher line with Brussels, and may even reassure some in her party who were wavering over whether Salzburg had been the final blow to the credibility of her leadership. As I have already said, that is unacceptable. European Union leaders in Salzburg repeated their view that the plans would undermine their cherished single market.

Tiger Woods shares Tour Championship lead
Five-time BMW victor Woods was solid from tee to green, hitting 11 of 14 fairways and 14 of 18 greens in regulation. Fowler capped his round with back-to-back birdies at five and six and while he dropped a shot on seven.

"If the European Union believe I will, they are making a fundamental mistake.we both agree the Withdrawal Agreement needs to include a backstop", she said. She called for "serious engagement" to solve the problems.

"The referendum was the largest democratic exercise this country has ever undergone", said May, who has repeatedly ruled out a second vote following the original 2016 referendum.

"It's not acceptable to simply reject the other side's proposals without a detailed explanation and counterproposals", May said in a televised statement.

Away from the Tories, even the Labour Party seems to be in turmoil with its leader, Jeremy Corbyn, tentatively behind Brexit, but others such as London mayor Sadiq Khan calling for a second European Union referendum and criticising the government's handling of Brexit negotiations with the European Union in such a manner that the nation now faced a stark choice between a "bad deal" and a "no deal".

"We have to be careful, like two loving hedgehogs", Juncker said when asked about the progress of the Brexit negotiations in an interview with several Austrian dailies including Die Presse and Salzburger Nachrichten published on Friday.

The prime minister's economic plans, which would end free movement and keep frictionless trade in goods but not services, were given equally short shrift. To deny its legitimacy or frustrate its result threatens public trust in our democracy. French President Emmanuel Macron was particularly damning, calling the leaders of the Brexit campaign "liars".
