Nokia 5.1 Plus launched in India

HMD Global-owned Nokia today announced its latest contender in the race of the best phone under Rs 11,000. Delivery begins starting October 1.

Like the Nokia 6.1 Plus, the Nokia 5.1 Plus is an online-only smartphone exclusive to Flipkart in the sub-continent. At the moment, HMD has launched the device in only one variant, but the premium variant with 4GB of RAM and 64GB of internal storage could arrive at a later date. Now, the brand has revealed that Nokia 5.1 Plus comes at a price tag of Rs 10,999 and it comes in two colour options, Gloss Black and Gloss Midnight Blue.

The Nokia 5.1 Plus sports a 5.86-inch HD+ display with an aspect ratio of 19:9 and an 84 percent screen-to-body ratio.

Inside, the Nokia 5.1 Plus runs on a MediaTek Helio P60 with 3GB of RAM and 32GB of expandable storage. There is also a MicroSD card slot for further expansion of storage up to 400GB.

Talking about the performance of the phone, Ajey Mehta, Vice-President and Country Head of HMD Global India said "with Nokia 5.1 Plus we wanted to bring a phone that was high on performance that could get exciting gaming and entertainment experiences closer to a wider group of fans". Software-wise, the new 5.1 Plus boots vanilla-Android 8.1 Oreo out of the box, and as part of the Android One scheme, the handset is entitled to timely software updates from Google.

Nokia 5.1 Plus when it was announced came with a "global average" price of Euro 199, which on conversion comes to around Rs 16,700.

For optics, Nokia 5.1 Plus features a 13-megapixel primary with LED Flash, PDAF and a secondary 5-megapixel sensor for AI portrait shots at the rear panel. The front camera is 8MP with f/2.2 aperture.

Airtel customers will receive INR 1,800 instant cashback and 240 GB data over 12 months on the plans of INR 199, INR 249 and INR 448. Connectivity options include 4G VoLTE, Wi-Fi 802.11ac, Bluetooth v4.2, GPS/ A-GPS, USB Type-C (v2.0), and a 3.5mm headphone jack. The device kept powered on by a 3,060mAh non-removable battery and that supports 5V/2A power input.
