Massive Backlash Against Expensive'Taped Up Sneakers For Glorifying Poverty

Massive Backlash Against Expensive'Taped Up Sneakers For Glorifying Poverty

The Golden Goose sneakers, dubbed the "Superstar Taped Sneaker", boast "Crumply, hold-it-all-together tape" and "a grungy rubber cupsole".

Many were shocked by the design, with some pointing out that it glamorizes something that people who live in poverty have to go through - not by choice, but by necessity. "At that time, the company gave the following statement to US Magazine: "[Our] company is proud to highlight its pioneering role in the booming of the distressed look, one of the current biggest trends in fashion", the Venetian label said in a statement to Us magazine. 'Do these idiots know what it's like to be living in poverty. "The duct tape reinforcements appearing on the [Superstar sneaker] style pay homage to the West Coast's skater culture - professional skaters, who have inspired the brand's shoe collections from the beginning, fix their shoes with the same kind of tape". This is very bad. Insensitive. Who's in the room when pitching marketing ideas??'

However, many seem to think the sneakers are "distasteful" and "offensive". We realize taste is subjective and not every customer will like every product we carry.

Google, Apple each donate United States dollars 1 mln for Hurricane Florence relief efforts
As the situation develops, they expect to be called in to offer mobile services to hurricane-stricken areas. Donations enable the Red Cross to prepare for, respond to and help people recover from this disaster.

Italian brand Golden Goose also offers plenty of other worn-looking sneakers for upwards of $500.

The Twitter user, however, replied back: 'This isn't about taste. I grew up ridiculously poor & could not afford the "finer" things. The company recently sold a pair of PRPS men's trousers, caked with fake dirt, for $425; and a pair of Topshop "mom jeans" with see-through knees for $95.

Defenders, however, point out that Golden Goose has been selling distressed clothing for years.
