Over £300000 raised for homeless man is 'all gone', lawyer claims

All GoFundMe money reported gone after court orders couple to turn over funds to homeless veteran from NC

All GoFundMe money reported gone after court orders couple to turn over funds to homeless veteran from NC

A GoFundMe account that raised close to a half-million dollars for a homeless Pennsylvania man who helped a stranded woman ― but says he then saw little of the money ― is at the center of a heated dispute.

The couple say they spent $A277,000 on the camper, the hotel Bobbitt stayed in beforehand, an SUV, TV, laptop, two cell phones, $A34,000 in cash which they claim he blew through and a $A41,000 fee taken by GoFundMe.

Fallon told the Philadelphia Inquirer he was "completely shocked" when he heard the money was gone, noting the development came as a "complete surprise" to him. Dow ordered a full accounting of the money by September 9, which will reveal how much of the money was used and where it was spent. Bobbit's attorney, Chris Fallon, said he was told in a Tuesday morning conference call that there was no money left. Bobbitt gave his last $20 to help the couple. The story went viral and more than 14,000 people donated.

When I recently wrote a column expressing my feelings as to why homeless Marine veteran Johnny Bobbitt should just be given the money that was raised for him, I based that opinion on one key assumption. Bobbitt suspects a used BMW supposedly belonging to the couple was purchased using some of the finds from the GoFundMe site.

Bobbitt filed a suit against the company for the funds raised for him after Kate McClure and Mark D'Amico, who created the fundraising page, allegedly kept the money from the 35-year-old.

A New Jersey Superior Court judge is expected to hold another hearing on the case Wednesday.

"If they flee, they're taking the money with them", Jacqueline Promislo, another of Bobbitt's attorneys, told the Inquirer. Dow is also requiring Bobbitt to appear at the deposition, set for Monday, September 10.

Now, the man's attorney says all the money is gone and his client received only a fraction of the donations.

Smith said there's more to it than rain and flooding; it's also the unsafe rip currents and possible power outages. A storm surge covered barrier islands as the storm blew through, and some inland roadways were flooded as well.

But like most good things on the internet, it was quickly milkshake-ducked: The man, Johnny Bobbitt Jr.

Fallon said he did not know the couple's current whereabouts. "I'll burn it in front of him", he said, adding that giving an "addict" the money would be like "giving him a loaded gun".

"While we assist law enforcement with their ongoing investigation, GoFundMe is also working with Johnny's legal team to ensure he's receiving support while the remaining funds are being recovered", Whithorne said in a statement.

Misuse, the company said, "is very rare on our platform".

Since the incident McClure and D'Amico have been on holidays Las Vegas and Los Angeles. The promise of a home gave way to a camper they bought him to live in on their rural Burlington County, N.J., property, and as Bobbitt continued to struggle with drug addiction, the couple withheld much of the money. And if she needed a new auto after driving around taking care of Bobbitt's needs or needed a vacation to relax from her labors, she should be able to spend as much of it as she wished.

And Bobbitt told the Inquirer that D'Amico gambled away some of the GoFundMe money at a casino in Philadelphia.

Both McClure and D'Amico have repeatedly denied the allegations that they've dipped into Bobbitt's funds.

During an appearance on NBC's "Megyn Kelly Today" show, D'Amico told Kelly there was well over $150,000 left of the donations.
