Police Respond to Active Shooter Situation in Downtown Cincinnati

Emergency personnel and police respond to a reported active shooter situation near Fountain Square, Thursday, Sept. 6, 2018, in Cincinnati.

The gunman then entered the bank's lobby and continued to shoot. It's unclear at this point if the shooter took their own life or was killed by an officer.

The shooter is 29-year-old Omar Perez.

The Enquirer said some customers hid inside a bathroom at the bank, and one gunshot victim was found inside a nearby ice cream shop.

Three people were killed by the gunman, officials said, and two others were wounded.

He says it "could have been much, much worse" if not for the immediate police response to end the threat.

Officers responded to a 911 call around 9:10 a.m. local time about an "active shooter" at the bank, Isaac said.

Leonard Cain tells The Cincinnati Enquirer that he was about to walk into the bank until someone told him about the shooting.

A witness said he heard up to 15 shots.

People in and around the building reported hearing a series of gunshots.

The building is located in Fountain Square, a hub for entertainment and dining in the city. The building serves as the corporate headquarters of Fifth Third Bank.

Brazilian front-runner Jair Bolsonaro stabbed on campaign trail
It took a few moments for the crowd to realise what happened, but they quickly rushed the candidate out of the street. Bolsonaro screamed in pain after being stabbed in his abdomen, then fell backward into the arms of those around him.

One unnamed construction worker told WLWT television that he saw two victims being brought out in the aftermath, including one woman in a blood-soaked shirt.

The motive for the shooting was not immediately known.

"It could have been any one of us", Mayor John Cranley said.

"I looked behind me and saw the guy - he shot and then he shot again".

Five victims were shot at the Fifth Third Center on Fountain Square Thursday morning. "After that I started running", he told the Enquirer. Two people were injured.

"It is all too clear that we have to do more in OH to address the gun violence affecting communities across the state", said a statement from the OH chapter of Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense.

"There was a senseless act of gun violence on the streets of Cincinnati this morning", Kasich said.

"This is not normal, and it shouldn't be viewed as normal", the mayor told reporters, adding that the United States is the only industrialized nation with frequent active shooting incidents. "You know, these are things that we see happening across the country, and we all have to be vigilant and prepared to deal with these situations".

Three civilians were fatally shot.

There were people screaming "shooter, run, leave", in Fountain Square, a park that often hosts concerts, dancing, and food trucks.
