Ryanair cancels 190 flights this week amid cabin crew strike

The flights represent some 8 percent of the 2,400 originally scheduled.

The budget airline said nearly 200 flights have been cancelled on Friday due to a walkout by cabin crew across Europe.

Strikes by staff in Spain, Belgium, Holland, Portugal, Italy and Germany planned for this Friday have led to Ryanair changing its schedule and cancelling 190 flights. Such actions with the participation of pilots and flight attendants of the Irish airline continues for more than a year.

Some 30,000 customers are likely to be affected out of 450,000 set to travel.

Chief executive Michael O'Leary said at a press conference earlier this month that he would put up with strikes to defend the airline's low-priced business model.

Another key complaint of workers based in countries other than Ireland is the fact that Ryanair has been employing them under Irish legislation.

Aadhaar Verdict: Section 57 struck down; mobile companies, banks can not demand Aadhaar
Again and again they informed us - and disingenuously so - that Aadhaar details were mandatory to avail their services. The Supreme Court has declared the Centre's flagship Aadhaar scheme constitutionally valid.

The strike follows a summer of travel hell for Ryanair passengers, when hundreds of thousands of Ryanair passengers had their holiday plans disrupted.

The dispute between cabin crew unions and Ryanair surrounds the company's contract policy.

The airline has said that the 30,000 passengers affected have been notified by text message and or email.

"When we can successfully do deals with unions in Ireland, the UK, Germany and Italy, why are some unions in Belgium, Holland and Spain not doing similar deals?"

Today chief marketing officer Kenny Jacobs warned that the strikes were damaging Ryanair's business and customer confidence at a time of rising oil prices, and that if they continued it could affect capacity this winter and into next summer.
