Sharif, his daughter Maryam and son-in-law Capt (retd) M Safdar, now serving jail terms in the Adiala Jail in Rawalpindi after being convicted by an accountability court in a corruption case in July, have been released on parole to attend Kulsoom's funeral.

Former premier Nawaz Sharif underwent a medical check-up at Sharif Medical City after his health reportedly deteriorated after the demise of his wife Kulsoom Nawaz.

According to the Punjab province Home Department spokesperson, it has been decided that Nawaz, Maryam and Safdar's parole be extended by three days.

In case of late burial of a body, the rules provide three day extension in parole period which is further extendable by another three days.

Earlier, Prime Minister Imran Khan had ordered to facilitate the Sharif family regarding the bringing back the body of Kulsoom and matters related to their parole.

Heavy contingent of police has been deployed at the Jati Umra to provide security to the Sharif family.

Former finance minister Dar and the sons of Nawaz have been declared proclaimed offenders in the accountability cases they are facing in Pakistani courts, and their arrest is a sure thing if they return to the country.

On Thursday, hundreds of people attended the funeral prayers of Begum Kulsoom at London's Regent Park mosque, which was separate from another one to take place in Lahore on Friday. She was suffering from cancer.

Speaking to media, Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leader Javed Mirza said Nawaz was dejected over losing his partner of 47 years.

People continued to arrive at Jati Umra to express grief and offer sympathy to the Sharif family.

Kulsoom will be laid to rest on Friday.

After Kulsoom Nawaz's body is brought to Pakistan, her funeral prayers will be held on Friday in Raiwind.

Maryam Nawaz also saw her grandmother and was seen weeping at most of the occasions as the relatives came to condole the death of her mother. "It was extremely painful to know that I wasn't by my mother's side", she said.
