Antoine Griezmann has said that although he is a different player to Lionel Messi or Cristiano Ronaldo, he is "at the top" in football.

"I think the Ballon d'Or has more prestige and history", he told AS .

"Being at that table is a vision I have but I also know that I can do better".

For Griezmann, who helped Atletico to Europa League glory as well as playing a pivotal role in France's World Cup win, FIFA's choice was unwarranted.

The forward posted an image of himself sat on a throne, with Ramos putting a crown on his head.

Ignorance is very bold. When I hear this guy speak, it reminds me of players such as Totti, Raúl, Buffon, Casillas, Maldini, Xavi or Iniesta, players who have won many awards and titles but never a Ballón d'Or.

Ramos went on to say that everybody is free to give their opinion, but that Griezmann should listen to the likes of Diego Simeone, Degio Godin and Koke, as they have "some values which could be helpful to him". "Still, I think he's a great player", added a furious Ramos, who insists, he can not support the Frenchman's assiduous claims.

TURIN ITALY- JULY 16 Juventus new signing Cristiano Ronaldo poses for a portrait shoot

Julen Lopetegui's side are chasing a fourth consecutive European triumph but they will be without Ronaldo, who scored 15 goals in last year's competition and joined Juventus in the summer.

Barça and Real Madrid have an advantage already but Atletico are there.

"We can not dwell on what he did in the past".

"We always have a lot of love for top players but when they are not there, you have to keep going".

"We had a really good World Cup campaign, the whole team deserve to be awarded: (Kylian) Mbappe, (Raphael) Varane, (N'Golo) Kante, who had an unbelievable World Cup even though no-one talks about it, or even myself".

Regardless of that fact, Griezmann insists he is not only at the same table as Messi, but can get even better.

"I was quite bad", he said.
