Sky bundles Netflix in bid to break into more homes

Existing Sky Q customers with Netflix will be able to move their account to the new pack or sign-in to the Netflix app on Sky Q using their existing Netflix account details.

As Sky continues its push to maintain subscribers, the partnership with Netflix makes sense. If you have a premium Sky Q subscription and want Netflix, then it's probably worth paying for Sky's Ultimate On-Demand to amalgamate the services.

The package costs £10 per month and includes Sky Box Sets, which is normally £5pm.

There's no date for when Netflix will land on Sky Q just yet, but it's "soon".

Any customers on Sky+ will have to upgrade to Sky Q (and buy the 2TB box) if they want the joys of the new TV package (and 4K picture quality, of course).

There's no actual date for a launch with Sky now saying it will arrive at some point in November. That is, barring one significant point - while HDR will remain available through Netflix on other platforms when purchased with the Ultimate On Demand package, you won't be able to watch the streaming giant's High Dynamic Range content through the Sky box. But if you only have a Sky Q Entertainment subscription, you'll only be getting Netflix's Standard Plan for the same price - two screens at once, and no 4K content.

Netflix will be bundled with Sky's own boxsets of programmes such as Succession and Patrick Melrose in an add-on costing £10 per month on top of a subscription.

Note: You will need to have an existing Sky Q Entertainment subscription (£20 per month).

Will I keep my Netflix profile on Sky Q?

In terms of watching Netflix and Sky content on the go, we can confirm that while content mixes in Sky Q, titles available to download can only be watched through their origin maker's app, be that Sky Go or Netflix.

There's a bit of a catch though, it's not like Sky customers are suddenly getting Netflix for free.

Netflix on Sky Q is launching in November 2018. You can load the app with Sky's voice search but you can't use it to voice search within Netflix - this will arrive as an update in 2019.

You'll also see a number of UI tweaks rolling out, including the ability to open apps in Sky Q via a voice command, sort recommendations and recordings by type, and see a more refined recommendations system provide viewers with more personal choices. So you'll see Netflix shows like The Crown alongside Sky content on the Home screen as well as other areas like On Demand (above).

Netflix on Sky Q is, unsurprisingly, the excellent and easy to use Sky Q experience but now bolstered by Netflix's superb content suite.
