Rumour: Platform Named 'Erebus' Found in Unreal Engine 4, Could Be PS5

"On cross-platform, our way of thinking is always that PlayStation is the best place to play".

Sony has a large volume of users, and it doesn't seem like there's a lot of demand from PlayStation 4 owners for cross-play. Under the list of supported platforms we find the usual suspects, PlayStation 4, Switch, Xbox and others, but at the bottom a new platform is listed, "Erebus".

Erebus is listed (via Resetera) alongside existing platforms including the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, and comes with the abbreviation TST2. "Fortnite, I believe, partnered with PlayStation four is the explicit expertise for customers, that is our perception". Adding more they also announced Sony's next-gen PS5 to be in the works as well. Yoshida then clarified that some titles do have PC crossplay and that Sony decides what is the "best user experience" on a per game basis. Sadly, Sony hasn't come staunch down to reality and is now spouting gibberish about why Fortnite on PS4 would not enable for play with various networks. Either way, it's nearly certain that the next generation of Xbox and PlayStation consoles are in development right now, and we should get a decent look at them next year, with a probably release the year after. Since it is just a spotting and not an official confirmation, we would recommend you to take this with a grain of salt. "I'm confident we'll get to a solution which will be understood and accepted by our gaming community, while at the same time supporting our business", Layden said to Eurogamer.
