Steelers legend: Le'Veon Bell should return and fake injury

James Harrison: Le'Veon Bell Should Sign Franchise Tag, Fake Injury

James Harrison: Le'Veon Bell Should Sign Franchise Tag, Fake Injury

On Tuesday, Harrison suggested that if he were Bell, he would return to the Steelers by November 13 so he would still get credit for a year of service for 2018 so he could become a free agent after the season. You would see, the cameras would see, that I am fine.

"Something ain't right, I can't play on Sunday. I'm losing a lot of money".

So how did the Bell contract saga get here, again? He is a two-time first-team All-Pro and three-time Pro Bowler. They paid him $12.1 million, and he gained almost 2,000 yards from scrimmage.

Bell has continued his much-publicized contract holdout into the regular season, and there are no signs of him reporting to the Steelers in the near future.

Sure enough, Pittsburgh tagged him in 2018, meaning he would be paid $14.5 million this season.

The Pittsburgh Steelers sit at 1-1-1 after three games of the National Football League season.

NAFTA Talks: US, Mexico May Proceed Without Canada
The president said it would be called "USM", for the USA and Mexico, instead of "USMC", and offered blunt criticism of the Canadian team engaged in the talks.

Bell has spent his entire career with the Steelers since they drafted him in the second round in 2013 out of Michigan State. And the return would have to outweigh the consideration that the Steelers could receive under the Collective Bargaining Agreement, as modified by a key side letter with the NFL Players Association.

Harrison, meanwhile, isn't exactly a neutral observer here. But as he aged and drifted down the depth chart, he asked the Pittsburgh front office to release him last season. He ultimately got his wish and signed with the New England Patriots just days later.

"Basically you spit on your teammates".

"He erased himself. He erased his own legacy here", center Maurkice Pouncey said.

But, yeah, faking an injury probably isn't the solution.

UPDATE 10:35 p.m. ET: Although the Steelers would be eligible for compensatory draft pick compensation, Bell's departure would put their net free agency gains and losses at zero, given that they signed safety Morgan Burnett and linebacker Jon Bostic and lost tackle Chris Hubbard.
