Storm claim WNBA championship sweeping Washington

With a 98-82 win over the Washington Mystics on Wednesday night, the Seattle Storm completed the series sweep and clinched its third WNBA Championship in franchise history at EagleBank Arena on the campus of George Mason University.

Storm forward and league MVP Breanna Stewart said she wasn't sure if she would go.

Natasha Howard led the way for Seattle with 29 points and 14 rebounds.

But this one felt much different. You know, it's been a great season for our organization, for our players, and we had a lot of growth.

Breanna Stewart won four NCAA championships at UConn and won four Final Four MVP awards.

He had a vital accomplice in Bird, as a coach on the court, but still amazingly productive at age 37, who helped will the Storm back to prominence. "I think anyone in coaching, we always think there is a little more we can do".

The top five markets were: Seattle-Tacoma (3.6), Hartford & New Haven (1.7), Washington, DC (1.2), New Orleans (0.9), Memphis (0.9).

Seattle has won Wednesday for the third time in its history, the american League professional basket female (WNBA), beating Washington three wins to zero.

But the Storm expect a battle, and as the Mercury taught them, teams down two games have nothing to lose. "I know she made me a better coach".

Erik Karlsson traded to the San Jose Sharks
The Senators also will receive a first-rounder in 2021 or 2022 if Karlsson is on an Eastern Conference roster this season. In 627 career regular season games over nine seasons with Ottawa, he has tallied 126 goals and 518 points.

Stewart had the ball in her hands in the final seconds of the game, nonchalantly tossing it ahead as the buzzer sounded before turning around and embracing Bird to celebrate the title.

While Seattle won championships in 2010 and 2004, Washington is the last WNBA team to reach the Finals. "They are going to play that way offensively, they're going to play that way defensively".

Bird added that Seattle must limit turnovers.

Out of all of the insane moments in the Storm's series against the Mercury - arguably the most intense five games of the entire playoffs - Bird's Game 5 takeover will likely be the most memorable.

Stewart wouldn't allow this series to extend past Game 3, she was eager to get the champagne popping.

"There was a moment at the end with like a minute or so left, I think it was the last timeout when we had a chance to huddle and I said, 'Guys we did this. When you're on the other side of it, you try to slow her down and obviously, we didn't get that done".

Stewart and Bird have had each had a remarkable year, culminating in a magical end to the season that's been years in the making for their franchise. "But we had a goal coming into this year, we knew what to do and how to get better and we just continue to push one another".

"I could tell even back then that she was special", Rizzotti said. But Washington is not about to make a roster move out of panic to compete with them.

Home has been an evolving term for the Mystics of late. If nothing else, it reminded players of what's on the line. Starting with a Stewart 3-point play, Seattle countered with eight consecutive points and pulled away.
