Hugo Lloris will retain Spurs captaincy despite drink-driving conviction but misses Liverpool clash through injury

France's World Cup-winning captain Hugo Lloris avoided jail but received a 20-month driving ban and a £50,000 ($65,000) fine on Wednesday for drink-driving in central London.

"He's the first that regrets everything, and all that happened yesterday is not good", he said. "Of course he doesn't feel great", Pochettino told reporters in a press conference. He said he was guilty and responsible. He made a mistake and he's suffered the punishment of society. He is punishing himself.

"He is a man and he is very conscious about what happened, and of course you can not remove it, but he has the capacity to move on, learn and be focused on playing football", said Pochettino. "He apologised to everyone - the staff, the club, the fans, us - and he said "any decision that you take gaffer, or the club, I think is fair". It's a massive lesson for everyone. "That is a massive lesson for everyone, he was the first to tell me he made a mistake". Only we need to try, how he understands that it was a mistake. Like a man that he is, he is going to accept everything'.

Lloris' is expected to be out for several weeks whilst Alli's injury is less severe and although unlikely he could yet return for Tottenham's Champions League match against Inter next week.

But the goalkeeper will miss Spurs' game against Liverpool on Saturday, with Dele Alli also ruled out as Pochettino has suffered a double injury blow. "Then [I want] to congratulate the club because the club has protected a big asset".

Hurricane Florence begins to batter USA east coast
This morning, the radar loop out of Morehead North Carolina is beginning to show those fans of heavy rain closing in on the coast. The coastal area of SC features hundreds of inlets while North Carolina has barrier islands miles away from the mainland.

"That is so important. I did. Rather than congratulate him, people need to thank me". I want a watch or some Korean food. He had not been allowed to play in the tournament by his old club Bayer Leverkusen four years ago.

"I'm not disappointed with him", he said.

Pochettino, though, says he knows Kane better than anyone.

When sentencing, the magistrate said the fine represented the seriousness of the offence as well as the goalkeeper's financial means.

"He's travelled a lot and yes I hope that for the weekend he'll be available to play or be on the bench. It's not a moment to take risks now".
