Trump 'approved of Putin meeting proposal'

"George announced at the meeting that he had connections that could facilitate a foreign policy meeting between Mr. Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin", the court filing explains. "Mr. Trump nodded with approval and deferred to Mr. Sessions who appeared to like the idea and stated that the campaign should look into it", the memo reads. Aides have said he had no access to Mr. Trump.

Sessions, when asked about that meeting under oath, said that he "pushed back" on the idea of the Putin summit.

Then it goes on to explain that Papadopoulos's connections with Russian Federation apparently were of much importance to President Trump and current Attorney General Jeff Sessions.

One longtime national security journalist, however, thinks the Papadopoulos sentencing memo wasn't really written for the court's consumption so much as it was meant to function as a plea to President Trump himself-a plea for a presidential pardon. He was the first domino and many have fallen in behind.

The first person sentenced in the Russia inquiry, Alex van der Zwaan, 33, a former associate at Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom and the son-in-law of Russian oligarch German Khan, was ordered to serve 30 days behind bars for lying to prosecutors. He is asking the court to give him probation for his charge of lying to the Federal Bureau of Investigation.

"Mr. Papadopoulos is ashamed and remorseful", Papadopoulos' attorneys wrote Friday.

The entire document, which can be seen below, also alleges some interesting occurrences which took place while Papadopoulos worked for the Trump Campaign. Most media attention thus far has focused on the not-entirely-novel revelation that Jeff Sessions okayed the plan for Trump's 2016 campaign to meet with members of the Russian government in order to bolster their foreign policy bona fides.

At an April 26, 2016 meeting, Mifsud told Papadopoulos that people in Moscow had "dirt", "thousands of emails" on Hillary Clinton, according to the filing.

"We don't know if Putin will be in Paris, if Trump will be in Paris".

Trump Offers ‘Complete and Total Endorsement’ for Former Rival Ted Cruz
Hogg joked on Twitter that there was such a feast of insulting tweets about Cruz by Trump that it was hard to make a selection. Cruz is in a tight race for the Senate against challenger Democratic Congressman Beto O'Rourke.

Marcy Wheeler (who has been covering national security law and politics since special counsel Patrick Fitzgerald's investigation into the George W. Bush administration) believes the requested pardon is based on Papadopoulos' continued allegiance to Trump.

In the filing Friday, Papadopoulos' lawyers lay out the image of an intellectually curious, successful and worldly man.

Trump named Papadopoulos as one of his campaign's foreign policy advisers on March 21, 2016, boasting to reporters: "He's an energy and oil consultant, excellent guy", the filing said.

'To say that George was out of his depth would be a gross understatement.

Specifically, the theory holds, Papadopoulos wants to get the message to Trump that the young and recognition-starved stalwart never once started singing to the Federal Bureau of Investigation or the special counsel about the Trump campaign's knowledge of stolen Hillary Clinton emails.

Papadopoulos lied to FBI agents not to hurt special counsel Robert MuellerRobert Swan MuellerSasse: US should applaud choice of Mueller to lead Russian Federation probe MORE's investigation but to "save his professional aspirations and preserve a perhaps misguided loyalty to his master", his defense lawyers wrote, according to the AP.

"George Papadopoulos is now a convicted felon", the lawyers wrote.

Millian has denied being a source for the dossier and says he does not have any compromising information about Trump. It would also contradicts Trump's numerous claims of having "nothing to do with Russia".
