On Friday morning, Donald Trump finally did what his aides reportedly have been working desperately to keep him from doing: he went on the offensive and attacked the credibility of Christine Blasey Ford, the woman who has accused Brett Kavanaugh of sexual assault.

Twitter has erupted with #WhyIDidntReport confessions since Trump's tweet, as Alyssa Milano, Ashley Judd, Padma Lakshmi and others detailed their reasons for silence following incidents. It meant recognising my attacker's existence when I wanted nothing more than to forget that he was allowed to walk on this Earth at all.

Earlier in the day, Trump had tried to cast doubt on Ford, who is accusing Kavanaughof holding her down and groping her at party during their high school days - suggesting that if those accusations were true, Ford would have filed a police report at the time.

Throughout her piece, she pointed to many reasons that sexual assault victims don't report their assaults, including that victims "know all too well that our stories are rarely taken seriously or believed". "They said 'Oh, he's a nice old man, that's not what he meant.' So when I was raped at 15, I only told my diary".

In her first-person story, Milano said that Trump's statement "chilled me to my core". Once when I was a teenager.

Milano's essay expanded on a series of tweets she posted over the weekend as sexual assault survivors used the hashtag #WhyIDidntReport to share their heart-wrenching stories of abuse. "I never filed a police report and it took me 30 years to tell me parents", Milano wrote. "The lives of survivors will always be more important than Brett Kavanaugh's career", she wrote.

US, China tariffs may be 'new normal'
Trade Representative's office has received 6,000 written comments, mostly in oppositions, since announced his tariff plans. We're now talking about tariffs on just about half of everything we get from China.

As Kavanaugh denied the allegations, Trump further asked, "The radical left lawyers want the Federal Bureau of Investigation to get involved NOW".

He claimed that if the assault was as serious as she claims it to be, it must have been reported.

Milano, who appeared on "Who's the Boss?" and "Charmed", also said she believes Blasey Ford and called on senators to reject Kavanaugh's nomination.

On Friday, former President Ronald Reagan's daughter Patti Davis came forward with a Washington Post op-ed, claiming she was raped by a music executive nearly 40 years ago.
