Tropical storm Trami (潭美), which is now situated to the southeast of Taiwan in the Philippine Sea, developed into a typhoon on September 23, and has potential to affect Taiwan, the Central Weather Bureau (CWB, 中央氣象局) predicts.

Forecaster Ariel Rojas said Paeng is not expected to make landfall but PAGASA said it may put areas in extreme Northern Luzon under tropical cyclone warning signals by Thursday or Friday, depending on the typhoon's movement.

Ompong (Mangkhut), the first typhoon this month, left a trail of destruction across Northern Luzon, leaving dozens dead and billions worth of damage in agriculture and infrastructure.

Typhoon Trami will bring rough swells and unpredictable waves to Taiwan's southeast coast and outlying islands in the area from September 24.

S&P Upgrades Australia's Sovereign Rating Outlook
The agency said the big four banks - ANZ, CBA, NAB and Westpac - all maintain a AA rating with a negative outlook. However it said the pressure remains on government supportiveness for Australian banks.

Paeng has rapidly intensified into a typhoon, hours before it entered the PAR on Sunday.

Weather officials said the typhoon will not significantly enhance the southwest monsoon or Habagat, but it may bring rains in Batanes and the Babuyan Group of Islands by the end of the week.

In its weather bulletin at 5 p.m., PAGASA said Paeng, last spotted at 1,290 km east of Tuguegarao City in Cagayan, will not have a direct effect in any part of the country yet.

The weather disturbance is moving towards the west at a speed of 20 kph.
