Urban Meyer knows that Penn State will be a huge test

Penn State shocked Ohio State two years during the previous game between the two schools at Beaver Stadium.

Over the weekend, The Athletic reported that Ohio State University senior officials have "begun discussions about a coach-in-waiting arrangement" for offensive coordinator Ryan Day to follow Urban Meyer as head coach of the Buckeyes. A white-out crowd of 107,000 will await Ohio State in a game that features the country's two most prolific offenses.

The redshirt sophomore won a share of the Offensive Player of the Week award for his 304-yard, five touchdown performance in the first half against Tulane. Very loud and the fans are into it.

The full release from the Big Ten is below.

"Ryan Day is a great coach, but I haven't given any thought to that", Meyer said Monday during his press availability.

Four drives into the Buckeyes' win over Tulane, he already had more passing yards than OSU managed in any of its last six games in 2017. Ohio State edged Penn State 31-24 in double-overtime in 2014 with J.T. Barrett leading the way despite an injured knee. The No. 2 Buckeyes were favored, but lost in an upset, due in part to a Marcus Allen blocked field goal that led to a touchdown return for Grant Haley. He left the game in the third quarter.

It's a top-10 matchup, as Ohio State checks in at No. 4, while Penn State is ranked No. 9.

Neither team's defense has been consistently dominating. Now, the September 29 battle with conference rival Ohio State is just a few days away.

Meyer said that defensive tackle Robert Landers will return this week after missing the Tulane game with an undisclosed injury.
