Virgin Media launches dedicated 4K channel

Cable broadband ISP and TV network Virgin Media has today announced the launch of a new dedicated Ultra High Definition (4K UltraHD) TV channel, which will be exclusively available for Virgin TV Full House and VIP customers with a V6 set-top-box from Monday 17th September 2018 "at no extra cost".

At launch, the channel's schedule features several dramas distributed by Sony Pictures, including Start Up (Mondays 10pm), Masters of Sex (Fridays 10pm), Shut Eye (Tuesdays 10pm) and The Art of More (Thursdays 10pm) - the latter two of which will be airing in the United Kingdom for the first time. This follows on from Virgin's release of 4K BT Sports channels in July.

Virgin TV Ultra HD will be the first entertainment channel in the United Kingdom to broadcast exclusively in 4K, and offer a fleet of compatible TV dramas and documentaries. The channel will also get United Kingdom network premiere, Shut Eye, which is a black comedy about storefront psychics; The Big Dry, a documentary from the producers of Planet Earth II; The Art of More, another network premiere about a former soldier leading a double life; and Masters of Sex, a drama about a doctor carrying out research into human sexuality.

Man dies 'in a fight with Afghans' in Germany weeks after protests
A vigil and mourning march for the 22-year-old, named by local media as Markus B, also took place at the site of the brawl today. The Mitteldeutsche Zeitung newspaper reported the man died as a result of acute heart failure - as revealed by an autopsy today.

"With the launch of Virgin TV Ultra HD we're giving our customers the ultimate entertainment viewing experience with must-see shows in incredible, crystal-clear picture quality". It really is the next best thing to being there. It will broadcast on channel number 999 from prime-time in the evening until late each night and will kick off at 8.20pm on its launch day.

It joins Virgin Media's foray into 4K earlier this summer with BT Sport 4K UHD, which saw the likes of the FIFA World Cup 2018, Wimbledon Championships, and Champions League Final broadcast in UHD to United Kingdom homes. "It's all part of our ongoing investment to give our customers the best way to watch the best TV".
