Water spotted at Jupiter's Great Red Spot

NASA scientists edge one step closer to finding water on Jupiter

As explained by Bioracer, this discovery supports the fact that the planet-the giant has a rocky core, as otherwise its composition, including the proportion of oxygen in its matter, was supposed to be the same as that of the Sun.

Group Gordon Bjoraker (Gordon Bjoraker), astrophysics from space flight Center name Goddard NASA conducted observations of the Great red spot on Jupiter.

The revelation was stirring given that the team's experiment could have easily failed.

The First-rate Red Hassle is stuffed with dense clouds, which makes it no longer easy for gentle to flee and reach earth-accelerate astronomers to inform them necessary about the chemistry inside.

By combining the pressure of the water and the measurements of carbon dioxide, scientists estimate that there is up to nine times more oxygen than the Sun.

"It turns out they're not so thick that they block our ability to see deeply", said lead study author Gordon l Bjoraker. "That's been a pleasant surprise", said Bjoraker. Hence, there is a strong possibility that the planet contains huge amount of water. The location of the water cloud, plus the amount of carbon monoxide that the researchers identified on Jupiter, confirms that the giant planet is rich in oxygen and water. They managed to find a cloud that consists of liquid and frozen water. That would be revolutionary, the scientists think.

Roger Federer admits retirement talk was "just a joke"
Roger Federer continued his bid for a record sixth US Open title with a comfortable second-round win over France's Benoit Paire . Federer was crisp in a 7-5, 6-4, 6-4 win over Benoit Paire in and made it 18 of 18 lifetime in the second round of the U.S.

But evidence is mounting that Jupiter has a core, possibly 10 times Earth's mass. Spacecraft that previously visited the planet found chemical evidence that it formed a core of rock and water ice before it mixed with gases from the solar nebula to make its atmosphere. However, recent data obtained by the spacecraft "Juno" indicate that the interior of Jupiter can be way more complicated.

There's even lightning and thunder on the planet, phenomena fuelled by moisture.

In particular, scientists previously believed that the water in it is present only in the "legs" of the hurricane, however, the measurements of Bjoraker and his colleagues say that the water there is noticeably more, and that it penetrates nearly up to the "top" of the anticyclone. Based on this, they say that there can be water here.

While analyzing the Great Red Spot, a centuries-old storm and the trademark of the most massive planet of our Solar System, NASA scientists discovered signs of water on Jupiter in the deepest clouds of the tempest of the giant planet. This storm has been named by the scientists "Great Red Spot". Bjoraker said in a statement.

By comparing the amount of methane emitting from the Great Red Spot to other areas of the planet, the team was able to determine that the lowest clouds sit just above the point where water freezes in the atmosphere - suggesting that water-rich, vaporous clouds begin forming as soon as the temperature allows them to.

Bjoraker's technique now needs to be tested on other parts of Jupiter to get a full picture of global water abundance, and his data squared with Juno's findings.
