Pellegrini splashed the cash in the summer transfer window, but a home defeat at the hands of Wolves on Saturday means it is four losses in the league in a row for the Hammers, who sit rock bottom of the table.

"I don't think it is a bad start, it is a very bad start".

"I know we have good players and we have quality, but we need to show this".

Wolves' victor on Saturday came from Carlos Sanchez giving the ball away in his own half, but throughout the match they looked vulnerable to the counter-attack - just as they did against Bournemouth and Arsenal respectively.

"It's a tough loss, because it's our second home game and we've lost them both", he explained. Here at home to lose we must be very anxious.

Ancer takes 1-shot lead over DeChambeau at TPC Boston NEW
Even with seven birdies and a 65, Ancer missed three birdie chances inside 10 feet, including a 5-footer on the par-5 18th. He didn't play his best from the final group, but it wouldn't have mattered with Francesco Molinari closing with a 62.

Rather than criticise his predecessors, Pellegrini may be better off questioning his players' work ethic because their lack of endeavour, in the first half especially, was pathetic.

When asked if all the new signings were still settling in, the Chilean added: "You can always have a lot of excuses for results, but it is not normal to lose four games".

Left-back Aaron Cresswell was hopelessly exposed by Adama Traore for Wolves' victor, and he admitted afterwards: "The way we conceded in the last minute wasn't good enough - you can't make these mistakes, you get punished". "We are just starting and will resolve that problem".

"But of course, when you start with no points in four games it is hard".
