What to watch for in the Senate Judiciary Committee hearing

Trump described Kavanaugh as a "gem" who had been unfairly maligned.

"Kavanaugh is going for a seat where he's going to have that seat on the Supreme Court for the rest of his life".

Swetnick, who attended Gaithersburg High School in Maryland, says she attended "well over ten" parties where Kavanaugh was present.

Two women, Christine Blasey Ford and Deborah Ramirez, have come forward publicly with allegations against Kavanaugh.

Trump said at a news conference in NY that he'll watch the testimony from Kavanaugh and a woman who's accusing Kavanaugh of sexual misconduct.

"I think the Democrats in the Senate have had one goal since the beginning of this process and that is to sink Judge Kavanaugh's nomination, and we are finding that they will go to any lengths to do that", Thune said.

Avenatti also represents Stormy Daniels, who alleges she was paid to keep a sexual relationship with Trump quiet.

She said at some parties boys lined up by a bedroom to assault incapacitated girls. Ramirez alleged that Kavanaugh exposed himself to her while they were freshmen at Yale University.

Trump, on Twitter, attacked Avenatti of being a third-rate lawyer, who is "good at making false accusations".

Kavanaugh also denied these allegations stating, "This is ridiculous and from the Twilight Zone". Kavanaugh's lawyers reportedly plan on arguing to the committee Thursday that Kavanaugh wasn't at the party where Ford said the incident took place.

According to a committee aide, in an email to Avenatti on Wednesday, Republican committee staff said that "yesterday committee investigators interviewed Judge Kavanaugh again, under penalty of felony".

Activists walk through the halls of Dirksen Senate Office Building during protests against Judge Brett Kavanaugh on Capitol Hill September 26, 2018 in Washington, DC.

While defending Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh, Trump made a decision to bring the founding father into things, imagining what might - and we would like to stress the might - happen if Washington was in Kavanaugh's position.

Kavanaugh and one of his accusers, Christine Blasey Ford, are scheduled to testify before the Senate Judiciary Committee on Thursday, and almost 60% of Americans say they will be following the proceedings closely, according to The Marist poll.

The constituent said he and another man scuffled at the time with "Brett and Mark", but it was not until this week that he "realized that one of the men was Brett Kavanaugh when he saw Kavanaugh's high school yearbook photo on television over the weekend", according to the transcript.

Kavanaugh has passed six background checks and there is no indication that this allegation against him-or any like it-has never come up to the Federal Bureau of Investigation.

Republicans are concerned that, win or lose, the battle over Mr Kavanaugh's nomination is further animating women already inclined to vote against Mr Trump's party in November's elections in which control of the next Congress is at stake.

Mr Trump's remarks underscored the complexity of the moment, as Republicans seek to continue their efforts to install conservatives on the high court. They hope for a roll call by the full Senate - where they have a scant 51-49 majority - early next week with the aim of getting him on the court as its new term begins.
