Yale Students Demand Investigation Into Sexual Misconduct Allegations Against Kavanaugh

EXCLUSIVE: Emails show Yale profs cancel class for Kavanaugh hearing

The Senate Judiciary Committee has reached a tentative deal with Dr. Christine Blasey Ford as to when she will testify about her allegations against Supreme Court nominee Judge Brett Kavanaugh of sexual assault.

Kavanaugh, himself a Yale graduate, now stands accused of sexually assaulting California professor Christine Blasey Ford when they were teenagers in the 1980s.

The same student said Chua suggested she send her photos of outfit options and said she should dress in an "outgoing" way for the interview with the judge.

At the Yale protest, students dressed in black sat silently in the Sterling Law Building, filling the hallway.

"She's lying", the woman told HuffPost. "Another girl ... she got the same advice, and [Chua told her] to wear heels". She was also advised by Chua to not wear a suit.

Those conclusions allegedly included Chua telling students it was "no accident" the women who clerked for Kavanaugh "looked like models", and Rubenfeld saying Kavanaugh opted for female clerks "with a certain look".

Former students, who spoke under the condition of anonymity, told the Guardian Chua's husband Professor Jed Rubenfeld, also provided unsettling advice to law hopefuls. Just last week, reports emerged alleging that two YLS professors had instructed their female students who were interested in clerking for the SCOTUS nominee to present "model-like" femininity. The comment echoes those given to HuffPost from three students who had drinks with Chua a year ago. But Yale Law School spokeswoman Janet Conroy told the Yale Daily News the press release was not an endorsement of the nomination. "So I personally know that for her to say the allegations are 100 percent false is a lie, because at least that one is definitely true".

Chua, who says she's been absent from the news cycle following major surgery, called the story "100% false". In one case, a former student told the Guardian, a prospective clerk was introduced to Kavanaugh at a party that Chua hosted at her home - and was later told that the judge wanted her to apply for the post. I tell them to be courteous to everyone, including the staff and clerks.

"I advise students, male and female, to dress professionally - not too casually - and to avoid inappropriate clothing", Chua added, referencing advice frequently given to law students applying for high-level clerkships.

"Some questions are so fundamental to judicial integrity that the Senate can not rush past them without undermining the public's confidence in the Court". "I always try my best to be frank and transparent, and to hold students to the highest professional standard".

"While I respect the right of the students protesting to make their voices heard, I disagree with professors' decisions to cancel classes at the request of those protesters", Emily Hall, a student at Yale Law school, told Campus Reform in a statement. Particularly galling to students is the idea that Yale might have known about the sexual misconduct of one federal judge, Alex Kozinski ― a popular judge for Yale students to clerk with, as well as Kavanaugh's mentor.
