A fight between families that erupted at a birthday party for a 1-year-old left four men dead and one injured in Texas Saturday.

A 37-year-old man is suspected of shooting five men with a handgun early Saturday evening in the backyard of a home in the small town of Taft, north of Corpus Christi, said Sgt. Nathan Brandley of the Texas Department of Public Safety.

Sgt Brandley said one suspect is in custody and a second suspect has not yet been arrested.

The shooters opened fire, killing four men at the party. Authorities did not say what the men were arguing about, but said the shooting occurred in the backyard of a residence.

Juan Espinoza Jr, 43, was airlifted to a hospital in Corpus Christi, where he is in a critical condition. Brandley said he's expected to survive.

The shooting, which happened at Smokey's Paradise Food Mart, was reported as a drive-by in the police phone call.

Taft, a town of almost 3,000 people, is about 12 miles north of Corpus Christi.
