Aaron Hernandez was beaten frequently and sexually abused as a child

The Globe's "Spotlight Team" produced the series after hours of interviewing people who knew Hernandez, sifting through thousands of court and government records, and reading numerous of texts and emails Hernandez sent before killing himself in prison past year.

The Globe's Spotlight Team gathered the information from interviews, thousands of court and government records, and text messages, emails and images Hernandez sent and received while in prison serving a life sentence for the 2013 murder of Odin Lloyd.

Jonathan Hernandez told The Globe that Aaron Hernandez revealed to him later as an adult that he was sexually molested as a young boy.

One of Hernandez's high school ex-girlfriends spoke about the alleged abuse in the Oxygen documentary about Hernandez that aired in March. His death came just five days after being found not guilty of a 2012 double homicide. He said the pair would smoke marijuana before and after football practice and also had a sexual relationship. Jonathan declined to say more to the Globe about this revelation. "We didn't want people to know", SanSoucie told The Globe. "All the time. Standing".

Aaron - who played for the Patriots from 2010-2012 - committed suicide while in prison in MA in 2017. Boston University's CTE team noted that the disease "is associated with aggressiveness, explosiveness, impulsivity, depression, memory loss and other cognitive changes".

SanSoucie is now an out gay man, according to the profile, and believes Hernandez would be proud of him for talking about their relationship: "I really truly feel in my heart I got the thumbs-up from him".

"Faggot" was used all the time in our house", said Hernandez's brother Jonathan.
