Alex Cora puts hero of Game 3 back on Red Sox bench

Dellin Betances celebrates with Gary Sanchez after getting out of the seventh inning in the Yankees' 6-2 win in Game 2 of the ALDS Saturday night

Dellin Betances celebrates with Gary Sanchez after getting out of the seventh inning in the Yankees' 6-2 win in Game 2 of the ALDS Saturday night

The originally scheduled pitching matchup was Luis Severino for the Yankees and Rick Porcello for the Sox. Based on Hicks' bat drop, it looked like he believed that he had put the Yankees up 1-0. Jackie Bradley Jr. ended the contest 1-for-3. It was one loud out. Eovaldi allowed a lone earned run in the fourth on a Didi Gregorius fielder's choice grounder. Sabathia threw 20 pitches (12 strikes) in his first. Bases loaded. Two outs. He had four, yes four, calls challenged last night.

Kinsler didn't come through. Brett Gardner walked twice in four plate appearances.

Mookie Betts, in fact, hit a 405-foot flyout to the center-field warning track to begin the game. He struck out five without issuing a walk.

Luke Voit had himself a first inning.

And while it would be unfair for Red Sox fans to expect him to throw another one-hit complete game like he tossed against the Yankees on August 3, anything resembling that gem will likely send the Sox home after today's Game 4 in extremely high spirits.

But despite the sheer volume of bets that is hitting this game, it's still unclear which team is going to be the more popular pick. Red Sox relievers have given up five in 11 innings. Go with the hosts on the run line as this could be another rout.

"I think from pitch 1, we let them know that we were here", Cora said. Clearly, no one rooting for the home team expected anything like this. He popped 31 homers for Boston in 2003 and followed that up with a 41-homer, 139-RBI, 145-OPS+ season in 2004 (he finished fourth in the AL MVP voting, which was announced after the postseason).

Holt has only four at-bats against Sabathia, and has yet to collect a hit against the NY lefty. "You get it, and you just hope he makes the right calls". The win over Oakland in last week's wild-card game improved NY to 7-0 at home in the postseason since the start of the 2017 playoffs.

"We've been doing this the whole season", Cora said. Or would they start Porcello and risk being eliminated?

When he stepped in to face Romine, Holt said he was specifically trying - for the first time he could recall in his career - to hit a home run. "Watching from afar previous year, especially in the postseason, you could kind of see that raw, intense connection that the fan base had with the players, and that created a lot of buzz going into the winter obviously". This is a team that won 100 games in the regular season, led by an offense that ranked No. 2 in Major League Baseball in runs scored.

Aaron Ramsey wonder goal for Arsenal, Riyad Mahrez misses penalty
I don't think Arsenal ... "We have to keep quiet and work like we did before and the season is going well", he said. Four or five years ago, every club wanted him - Manchester City, Barcelona.

Why he's here: Ortiz never gets the chance to play superstar without the guy who had exactly zero at-bats for the Red Sox in the series.

In total, Hernandez had three calls overturned through four innings of the game, giving him four calls total overturned in the series.

It all fell apart for the Yankees in Game 3, of course. The Yankees have managed just one home run against him in 23 1/3 innings. That's not the most encouraging recent history. The over is 6-1-1 in the last eight Boston games overall.

The Astros went 2-5 against the Yankees this season.

Meanwhile Sabathia was a mixed bag against the Red Sox this season.

Boston second baseman Brock Holt celebrates hitting a two-run home run with second baseman Ian Kinsler in the ninth inning in game three of the 2018 ALDS playoff baseball series at Yankee Stadium. It's all about tonight.

For tonight's lineups, Red Sox manager Alex Cora and Yankees manager Aaron Boone both made a few, interesting changes.

First pitch is at 8:07 p.m.

By the same token, the Yankees got emasculated on their home field on Monday night.
