However, things take a turn for the worse in The Obliged and, in the end, Rick suffers the consequences. His departure is alluded to in episode 4 when he begins to say his goodbye messages for characters like Eugene Porter, Carol Peletier and Daryl Dixon. Collider exclusively broke the news this summer that Lincoln would be exiting the long-running series during the first few episodes of Season 9, as the actor has made a decision to spend more time with his family in the United Kingdom rather than spending half the year sweating down in Atlanta.

Whatever ultimately happens, at least a few faces from Rick's past will be stopping by next week - presumably in flashback or hallucination form - and one of them just so happens to be Jon Bernthal's Shane Walsh. You just witnessed the penultimate episode for Rick Grimes on The Walking Dead, as Andrew Lincoln's set to bow out of the show next week.

Last week's episode of The Walking Dead saw Rick furthering his preparations for the future, as he attempted to lead the people of Alexandria, The Hilltop, Oceanside, and the Sanctuary in mending the broken bridge. The episode airs on AMC on Sunday, November 4th.
